100th anniversary of the Trento Sardagna cable car

On July 29, 2020, a press conference was held at Palazzo Geremia in Trento to present the commemorative events for the 100th anniversary of the Trento Sardagna cable car.

The Municipality of Trento was represented by the Mayor, Dr. Franco Ianeselli, and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and the Environment, Dr. Michele Brugnara; while the Autonomous Province of Trento was represented by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Energy, Transport, Sport and Protected Areas, avv.  Mattia Gottardi.

The Director General of Trentino Trasporti, ing. Roberto Murru, revealed the details of the celebrations:

  • On August 4, two plaques will be unveiled commemorating the first cable car ride open to the public, which took place on the same day 100 years earlier;
  • on September 19, as part of European Mobility Week, Trentino Trasporti will host a broader thematic conference. The event will celebrate the centenary of the official inauguration of the Trento–Sardagna cableway (September 27, 1925 – September 27, 2025), an infrastructure that combined technical innovation, territorial development, and sustainability. It will also provide an opportunity to compare experiences and reflect on the future of local public transport in a context of rapid urban, technological, and environmental transformation.
